Danielle is a reflection on perception, belonging, and the quiet power of what is often dismissed.

Inspired by a scene from Alice in Wonderland, where a field of flowers questions Alice’s identity and ultimately labels her a weed, this piece challenges the weight of that distinction.

Weeds are often seen as invasive and undesirable, something to be removed. Yet many of them are deeply medicinal, resilient, and essential in ways that go unrecognized. What we reject is not always without value. Sometimes it is simply misunderstood, or deemed out of place.

This painting honors the misunderstood. It reclaims space for what has been mislabeled and overlooked, asking the viewer to reconsider who and what gets to belong.

Danielle is part of the Alicia in Wonderland series, within Garden Politics, a landscape shaped by identity, rejection, and the tension between perception and truth.
